Mid-Autumn Festival Celebrations
This year, Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated on Thursday October 1. At Marryatville High School, to acknowledge this festival, international SRC and ambassadors gave out fact sheets and sweet biscuits to students during recess.
Falling on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival, is when families gather to sample autumn harvests, light lanterns and admire what's believed to be the fullest moon of the year.
Ancient Chinese emperors worshiped the moon in autumn to thank it for the harvest. The ordinary people took the Mid-Autumn Festival to be a celebration of their hard work and harvest. Nowadays, people mainly celebrate the Moon Festival as a time for family reunions.
