Year Level: Year 11 SACE
| SACE
- Stage 1 and Stage 2 |
This
School offers a large number of pathways to university, other tertiary
study or employment through a wide range of subjects. Our senior students
can gain an advantage in their studies through the inclusion of an extra
unit at Stage 1, a vocational subject. These subjects provide students
with the information and skills to be entrepreneurial in their approach
to future studies and career.

Parents and students
should note that-
Every effort
will be made to place students in subjects of their first choice. However,
the school cannot guarantee this absolutely because:
- if
too few students elect to take the subject it will have to be cancelled;
- if
staff are not available to teach the subject it will have to be cancelled;
- if
students submit late selections or make last minute changes to subject
choices, they may find that some courses have already been filled or
cancelled.
Student choices which
have been approved by the SACE counselling panel may be binding because
the purchase of books and materials, as well as the staffing of the school
will be based on them. Changes will only be possible at a later stage,
in the following circumstances:
- subject selections
will have to be changed if grades at the end of Year 10 result in entry
conditions not being satisfied;
- special arrangements
are made with the School Principal, Year 11 Coordinator (Ms Prest),
Year 12 Coordinator (Mr Bailey) or Student Counsellor (Mrs Pirone)
The
Writing-based Literacy Assessment (WBLA)
While the writing-based literacy assessment does not directly affect a
students subject choices it is a requirement of the SACE. This is
an assessment of writing skills which students must complete satisfactorily
in order to be awarded the SACE. The assessment is based on four pieces
of writing of a minimum 250 words each, each written in the context of
a subject they are studying.
- one from English,
English in Use or English as a Second Language
- one from Arts/Humanities/Social
and Cultural Studies;
- one from Mathematics/Science/Technology
- one other from
any subject of the students choice.
Students submit a
folio of the four pieces of writing for assessment at Stage 1 level (usually
in Year 11), but may resubmit work, as often as necessary during their
SACE Studies (until the WBLA requirements are satisfied).
